At Paradigm New York, one of the most unique aspects of our treatment approach and success is our commitment to creating treatment that is precisely individualized, according to each teen. We design treatment to be intensive, covering each aspect of the teens’ lives intentionally and cohesively, in a relatively short period of time. One of the ways that we’re able to provide this kind of individualized treatment is because of our attention to teens’ specific needs and dispositions. To this end, one of the many factors we take into consideration when designing treatment is whether a teen is extroverted or introverted. What we find from experience is that extroverted and introverted teens behave much differently throughout the treatment process and therefore, using this knowledge, we can better tailor our efforts, according to extroverted teens’ personalities.
Extroverted teens are categorized as such, due to their tendency to recharge their energy by spending time with others, as opposed to introverted teens, who recharge by spending time alone. Other characteristic of extroverted teens is they tend to be natural leaders, they usually enjoy sharing with a group and/or in front of others, and they have a strong sense of independence. Therefore, some of the intentional ways we support extroverted teens is to allow for teens to have down-time either alone or with others, to make sure they participate in group sessions and/or allow them to lead certain group activities, and make efforts to give the teens choices within their treatment time, so that they feel that they have some ownership in their day-to-day activities and schedule.
Another strength of Paradigm New York is our extensive selection of therapeutic programs and supplemental support programs, which allow for a number of different options for teens. Because our treatment plans are not designed according to a one-size-fits-all approach, according to illness, teens and therapists are able to make decisions as to what activities, resources, and therapeutic options will best fit the extroverted teen’s personality and goals. What we find is that in this context, when teens’ feel more naturally comfortable, they are better able to relax and engage in treatment, in an authentic manner. This of course allows for more complete, successful treatment to take place, overall. Ultimately, this not only makes And lastly, we pride ourselves in knowing we will be able to shape treatment especially for extroverted teens’ unique needs, because of our incredible staff to client ratio, which is the highest in the nation. Because our teens participate in daily individual treatment sessions with a therapist, we can continue to adjust and specify treatment throughout the process, making sure all of the teens’ needs are met.
